I get excited when I can hook people up to learn, heal, problem-solve, or share community. Here are some resources I utilize in my own learning. Enjoy.
Amazing interviews:
The Kathleen Show showcases interviews with national leaders in the fields of health, sustainability, and the arts. Few people could pull this off, but my friend and colleague Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau is not only passionate and involved widely as a movie-maker, author, and health advocate, she simply has and eye and an ear for the stories we want to hear and need to hear! Plus, she's just a heck of a lot of fun. Check out her site, and look for some of my favorite interviews with people like Michael Pollan and Maya Angelou. While you are at it, find inspiration from unexpected places, with interviews and stories on people like animal health expert and cancer survivor Jerry Brunetti or the Blue Zones explorer Dan Buettner. And if you are a physician, a medical student or resident, a hospital administrator, or in any other way a participant in or consumer of modern health care in America (which is pretty much all of us), go to her sight and order two DVDs: First a hard-hitting fiction (yes, fiction, but based closely on Kathleen's former work as drug rep) Side Effects and second, an even harder-hitting documentary called Money Talks. After seeing these movies, you will never be able to take a medicine without asking yourself the bigger questions of why this medicine was prescribed to you and who stands to benefit. Her work is now being utilized as an educational tool in medical schools (and board rooms) across the country.
Buddhist Geeks is a small organization with a mission to have meaningful discussions with Buddhist and spiritual teachers from around the world. Interviewer Vince Horn does an exellent job of introducing beginners all the way through more advanced practitioners to interesting people and concepts on these weekly podcasts. Integral Naked, originally a branch of the Ken Wilber's Integral Institute and now with a vast archive of recorded interviews, is one of the best sources out there for an in-depth audio education in topics ranging from health to politics to ecology to art and music. These interviews are almost always on the intellectual side and feature Ken's vision and articulation of the Integral Theory of everything. Yet, even if this isn't your style, you can learn a tremendous amount about what our world leaders in all areas relating to spirituality in the world are up to. http://in.integralinstitute.org/
